Family: POPPY (PAPAVERACEAE)

BRASSICACEAE FAMILY Pods are distinctly tetrahedral, sparsely pubescent, 20–25 mm long. Seeds are oval-folded, ovoid, angular. The apex is slightly obliquely pointed, sometimes bearing a tooth-like protrusion; the seed is widened at the base, and triangular-rounded in cross-section. The radicle is slightly curved, noticeably extending along the seed, forming a groove up to 3/4 of the seed length. The seed hilum is covered by a barely visible white film. The surface is punctate, matte. Color is yellowish-brown; there is a dark spot near the seed hilum. Length 1.25–1.75 mm, width 0.5–0.75 mm, thickness 0.5–0.75 mm. It infests crops of spring and winter cereals, and meadows. Distribution: European part (everywhere except Crimea), Siberia, Far East, Central Asia. Toxic properties: indicated above.
