Seeds of winter cress (Barbarea vulgaris)

FAMILY BRASSICACEAE Pods are convex-quadrangular. Length 15–20 mm. Seeds are oval-compressed, triangular-convex on the outer side, nearly flat on the inner side, slightly compressed at the base and sides, with a blunt-rounded apex. A shallow groove runs along the flat side. The seed hilum is slit-like, slightly protruding, sometimes with a remnant of a yellow film. The surface is pitted, slightly shiny. Color is grayish-brown; the seed hilum is lighter. Length 1.25–1.75 mm, width 0.75–1 mm, thickness 0.5–0.75 mm. Infests all crops, meadows; grows along roads. Distribution: European part (everywhere), Caucasus. Toxic properties: indicated above.
