Botanical description of the seeds and capsules of common poppy

Capsules are spherical to obovate, lids are round with opening valves, ribs are rounded-ribbed. The base ends with a small cylindrical pedicel remnant. The surface is longitudinally ribbed, matte. Color is dark straw-yellow to grayish-brown. Length 10–12 mm; diameter 5–6 mm. Seeds are kidney-shaped, convex, the notch is oval, slightly asymmetrical. The seed hilum is oval, located in a deep notch. The surface is rectangular-reticulate, regular-radial, matte. Color is brown with a reddish tint. Length 0.75–1 mm, width 0.5–0.75 mm, thickness 0.5 mm. Infests spring crops. Distribution: European part (predominantly in southern, less frequently in central regions), Caucasus, Western Siberia. Toxic properties: indicated above.
