Botanical description of pods and seed of wild radish

BRASSICACEAE FAMILY The jointed pods are moniliform, consisting of individual single-seeded segments numbering from five to eight (rarely more), separated by constrictions. The pods break into individual segments upon ripening along these constrictions. Pod length is 3080 mm. The segments are barrel-shaped or cylindrical. The upper segments have an elongated beak, the lower ones include a portion of the pedicel, and the middle ones are truncate at both the top and bottom. The walls of the segments are dense and woody. The surface is longitudinally ribbed and slightly wavy. The color is straw-yellow or greenish-gray. Length is 35 mm, width and thickness are 23,5 mm. The seed is oval with a groove formed by the radicle. The seed hilum is elongated and clearly visible. The surface is punctate, finely pitted, and matte. The color is reddish-brown. Length is 22,5 mm, width and thickness are 22,25 mm. It infests almost all crops, especially spring crops. Distribution: European part (universally, except for the Arctic, more common in the West and the non-chernozem zone), Caucasus, Western and Eastern Siberia, Far East.
