Botanical description and morphological characteristics of bittersweet nightshade seed

Juss. Berries are succulent, bright red, ellipsoid in outline, multi-seeded. Seeds are rounded, strongly compressed laterally. Rounded on the back, slightly notched towards the base. The seed hilum is inconspicuous, located below the notch. The surface is reticulate, matte. Color is yellow, less often yellowish-brown. Length 1.75–2.25 mm, width 1.5–1.75 mm, thickness 0.5–0.75 mm. It acts as a weed in gardens and tea plantations; it grows in damp areas and along streams. Distribution: European part (almost everywhere), an introduced species in Crimea and Ciscaucasia, Central Asia, Western Siberia. Toxic properties: indicated above.
