Seeds of common soapwort

CARYOPHYLLACEAE FAMILY. Capsules are four-toothed. Seeds are kidney-oval shaped, compressed, almost flat. The seed scar is in an obtuse-angled notch. The surface is covered with small oval warts arranged in rows parallel to the edge of the seed. Near the seed scar, the rows are disrupted and the warts are smaller. Seed color is black, reddish-brown. Length 1.75–2 mm, width 1.5–1.75 mm, thickness 0.75 mm. It infests grain crops and meadows; grows along roads. Distribution: European part (central and southern regions), Caucasus, Western Siberia, Central Asia. Toxic properties: indicated above.
