Peculiarities of cucumber cultivation using the Klin method
The Klin cultivation technology for cucumbers is focused on the most efficient use of the usable area in protected ground. Planting is carried out in long wooden troughs, which are installed in five rows throughout the entire greenhouse. The design allows for the compact placement of propagation material and obtaining a high yield even in relatively simple greenhouses.

From 20 to 24 plants are planted in one standard trough. Instead of traditional trellises for supporting the bushes, "soshki" (small wooden stakes) are used. The lower pointed end of the stake is inserted into the soil of the trough, and a cucumber leaf is carefully inserted into the upper cleft. During the growing season, 5–6 such supports are installed for each plant.
In Klin-type greenhouses, additional shelving can be installed. They are used to grow greens using the same agricultural technique as in early hotbeds or block greenhouses.
Bush formation using the Klin cultivation method requires strict adherence to the pinching scheme. This stimulates active branching and accelerates the formation of fruit buds.
- The first pinching is performed on transplants above the second true leaf.
- The second pinching is done on the side shoot of the second order above the first leaf.
- The third pinching is performed above the 7th–8th leaf.
Sanitary measures and plant protection
The protection of vegetable crops in protected ground is based on a combination of sanitary-preventive measures and chemical treatments. To prevent the mass development of diseases and pests, it is necessary to carry out sanitary work regularly. Timely implementation of agricultural activities reduces the risk of plant infection throughout the entire season.
- Keep the protected ground area clean by completely clearing it of weeds.
- Remove and burn all plant residues after harvesting.
- Locate greenhouses and hotbeds away from places where rodents may live (warehouses, livestock facilities).
- Regularly disinfect the structures of hotbeds and greenhouses.
When preparing soil mixtures, it is strictly forbidden to use soil on which related crops were previously grown. This leads to the accumulation of infections in the substrate.
Schemes for rodent control in greenhouses and hotbeds:
