Organization of labor payment systems and forms in agriculture

How the wage system is structured in a farm: salaries, rates, and standards
Competent organization of labor remuneration in an agricultural enterprise helps to retain specialists and motivate the team in the field. In practical work, it is important to distinguish between labor remuneration and wages. Labor remuneration represents the entire system of relations in the farm, including state guarantees, tariffication, standardization, and social partnership. Wages are monetary compensation for the volume, complexity, and quality of work performed under normal conditions within a set time.
Wages consist not only of basic rates for the completed standard. According to the International Labour Organization Convention No. 95 "On the Protection of Wages" (Geneva, 1949), the employee is also credited with compensation payments for deviations from the norm — for heavy and hazardous conditions, work at night, and overtime hours. Additionally, guaranteed amounts are paid for non-working time (vacations, downtime, training) and various incentive bonuses.
Quantitative and qualitative assessment of labor is linked to its payment through a tariff system. It takes into account personnel responsibilities, work complexity, and production conditions in a specific area. The main elements of the tariff system are the following components:
- Tariff rate — a fixed amount of payment for performing a labor standard of a certain complexity per unit of time, excluding compensations and bonuses.
- Tariff grid — a set of tariff grades and coefficients that determines the differentiation of payment depending on the complexity of the work.
- Tariff and qualification directories — regulatory materials with qualification requirements for assigning grades.
In agriculture, labor remuneration is divided into basic and additional. Basic remuneration is guaranteed for the fulfillment of established standards in a time-based or piece-rate form. The time-based system and fixed salaries are used for managers, specialists, engineering staff, and junior service personnel (storekeepers, guards). The piece-rate system calculates earnings based on rates per unit of work or product and is divided into direct (simple), piece-progressive, and piece-bonus systems.
With the piece-rate form of payment, tariff rates per unit of performed work or obtained product are established with mandatory consideration of the complexity of field processes and working conditions.
Additional payments and the contract system for an agronomist
Additional labor remuneration is applied in the form of extra payments, allowances, and bonuses for the final results of the farm's work. For specialists and managers, the best results are provided by the contract system, which takes into account the specifics of a particular production site. It guarantees a minimum salary when fulfilling the production program and makes it possible to significantly increase earnings when achieving high results.
The chief agronomist's contract directly links the payment amounts to the fulfillment of key agrotechnical tasks. The main indicators of the agronomic service's work are the sowing and planting of crops within optimal timeframes, the conduct of harvesting in short timeframes, and the reduction of costs per unit of product. Compliance with these conditions guarantees the fulfillment of the farm's technological plan.
Additional earnings are paid to the agronomist upon the completion of critical stages — after the end of sowing, Harvesting">harvesting or the sale of products. Based on the year-end results, the contract may provide for bonuses for the overall financial and economic results of the enterprise. The introduction of scientific achievements, advanced experience, and specific solutions that have yielded a direct economic effect is encouraged separately.
In joint-stock companies, their members are both employees and co-owners of property (shareholders). Therefore, besides wages, they can and should receive dividends on their shares. The source for this will be a portion of the profit remaining after the payment of taxes and deductions according to the constituent documents of the enterprise (organization).
