TNAU forecasts groundnut prices for the upcoming season at 65–70 rupees per kg.

Specialists at the Center for Agricultural and Rural Development Studies (CARDS) at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) conducted an analysis of the peanut market. According to the study's results, during the upcoming harvest period, the cost of the product is likely to fluctuate in the range of 65–70 rupees per kilogram. The forecast is based on data on prices in regulated markets in Tindivanam and Sevur over the last 25 years, as well as on the results of a market survey.

According to information from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, in the 2024–25 season, India harvested 119.42 million tons of peanuts from an area of 57.62 million hectares with an average productivity of 2,073 kg/ha. In the 2025–26 season, the sowing area for the crop increased by 3.17%. Despite the expansion of areas, market participants expect a decrease in supply volumes, which is attributed to recent fluctuations in monsoon rains.

Tamil Nadu remains one of the key regions for peanut cultivation in India. In the reporting period of 2024–25, local farmers sowed 3.15 million hectares, receiving 7.69 million tons of products with a yield of 2,439 kg/ha. The main cultivation areas in the state include Tiruvannamalai, Namakkal, Villupuram, Salem, Cuddalore, and Ariyalur. Despite the possibility of year-round cultivation with the availability of rainfall and water, the bulk of sowing works in most districts falls between June and August.

In the state, peanuts are primarily directed to the production of vegetable oil. The byproduct — oil cake — is an important high-protein feed for livestock. In addition, peanuts are used in the food industry for creating confectionery products and are consumed directly.
