Integration of dairy livestock and mushroom cultivation: the experience of a farmer from Bhojpur

Rahul Singh, who is engaged in farming in the village of Babura (Bhojpur district), has demonstrated the effectiveness of combining a dairy business with mushroom cultivation. Currently, his dairy farm supplies about 200 liters of milk daily. Wishing to ensure additional financial stability, the entrepreneur decided to diversify production through the cultivation of button mushrooms.

To launch the mushroom production, modern technologies and scientific methods were applied, and the starting batch consisted of 400 substrate bags. According to the farmer, this type of activity is characterized by a short growing season, requires minimal space, and allows for high profits — margins reach 50 percent. Consistent demand for the products makes it easy to sell the harvest.

The successful experience has encouraged the farmer to expand the scale of the enterprise. It is planned that with the support of government subsidies, the number of bags used for growing button mushrooms will be increased to 4,000. Rahul Singh believes that combining livestock farming and crop production based on modern technologies is a promising model for increasing incomes in rural areas and encourages young people to more actively develop agricultural enterprises.
