IFF introduces the new Omni-Bos™ PHY enzyme for dairy livestock

IFF (NYSE: IFF), specializing in tastes, flavors, health and biosciences, has developed a new phytase enzyme, Omni-Bos™ PHY, created specifically for dairy cattle. In the first phase, the new product will be introduced in the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific regions.

As Regina Cortada, Vice President of Animal Nutrition & Health at IFF Health & Biosciences, noted, the company's research has shown that phytate breakdown in cows is often incomplete, leaving valuable elements unavailable to the organism. The new product is designed to solve this problem, improve feed efficiency, support environmental goals and increase farm profitability.

According to Esther Viñeta, Director of Innovation for Animal Nutrition & Health, traditional phytase enzymes were not designed for the peculiarities of the digestive system of ruminants. Omni-Bos PHY is developed specifically for them and is capable of maintaining activity under rumen conditions, reducing nutrient losses. The use of the enzyme makes it possible to reduce dependence on the addition of phosphorus and protected amino acids, as well as to support the use of alternative protein sources, cutting feed costs and reducing nitrogen and phosphorus emissions.

The product is suitable for application in concentrates, premixes and total mixed rations. Research has shown that Omni-Bos™ PHY reduces the amount of unhydrolyzed phytate in the abomasum by approximately 70% compared to the control diet. The enzyme can be used in compound feeds for lactating cows, which has been confirmed by trials.
