Poultry farmers in Lagos are calling for the accelerated launch of an egg powder production plant.

At the annual summit held in Alausa, the chairman of the Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN), Lagos branch, Mojid Iyiola, reported that farmers are faced with the daily need to dispose of hundreds of eggs due to the inability to sell them. These losses amount to millions of naira. Launching a state-owned egg powder production plant will not only preserve the surplus but also ensure its processing for the domestic market.

During the summit, held under the theme "Striving for Growth: Transforming Nigeria's Poultry Industry through Innovation and Investment," methods for improving business efficiency were discussed. Mojid Iyiola emphasized the need to move away from outdated approaches in favor of modern technologies that allow for increased productivity with less labor. The association has organized training programs involving experts from academic circles to help farmers implement advanced production standards.

Professor of Agricultural Biochemistry and animal nutrition at the University of Ibadan, Olugbenga Ogunwole, noted that to realize the genetic potential of poultry, farmers need to reconsider their feeding approach. According to him, the use of low-quality feed and reliance on outdated methods hinder the achievement of high productivity that meets international standards.

For her part, a representative of the Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems, Olushola Egbota, urged market participants to make more active use of the Extension Services. Farmers can obtain the necessary advisory support at the service office in Oko-Oba, Agege, to improve the management of their farms.
