Wheat flour importers increased the price by 13 rupees
Due to a sudden decision by importers, the price of wheat flour in wholesale and retail trade across the island has increased. Previously, major companies and importers had already made similar price adjustments for flour. These steps are driven by fluctuations in global wheat prices, as well as rising operational costs and transportation expenses.
This increase in flour prices will directly impact consumers' daily diets. There is a high risk that the changes will affect the prices of bakery products, including bread, as well as flour-based snacks such as roti and kottu, which are popular among the public. In connection with the situation, the All Ceylon Bakery Owners' Association and other interested parties plan to hold discussions, following which a final decision will be made on further steps and potential changes in the prices of bread and other baked goods.
