Water quality as a determining factor in farming efficiency and soil restoration
The water resource situation in India's main agricultural regions has become complicated due to groundwater depletion, the pollution of rivers by industrial and municipal wastewater, and monsoon instability. Experts note that current strategies for increasing soil fertility and fertilizer efficiency often fail to deliver the expected results, as they do not account for the critical state of the water used for irrigation.
The solution to this problem may lie in the use of purified water from municipal and industrial systems. Technologies for such purification exist and have been tested; however, the primary obstacles remain the logistics of transporting water to the fields and the cost to farmers. Transitioning to purified water can halt the processes of salinization and land degradation caused by the use of contaminated sources in combination with the excessive application of chemicals.
Water purification is a mandatory initial stage for restoring the agroecosystem. The use of innovative preparations, including nano-fertilizers and biological additives, becomes effective only after ensuring high-quality irrigation. Otherwise, the beneficial properties of the applied components are nullified by the negative impact of contaminated water. Increasing yield and reducing losses are possible by building a consistent system: decentralized water purification near clusters, reasonable pricing, and subsequent application of agrotechnical means.
Developers of agricultural solutions are advised to integrate water treatment systems as fundamental components rather than auxiliary tools. In the authors' opinion, the effectiveness of implemented methods must be proven in practice under field conditions, as farmers rely on real, verifiable results for their farm budgets.
