The US President plans to expand the rights of farmers to process their own products.

In his post on the Truth Social platform, US President Donald Trump announced the preparation of official documents that will grant farmers the right to process their own produce. This measure is aimed at combating monopoly in the processing sector, which is currently dominated by four large companies. According to the head of state, the current market situation deprives producers of competitive conditions and creates serious difficulties for them in conducting business.

The President's initiative was announced amidst criticism from industry representatives and a number of Republican members of Congress. The administration's plan to duty-free import 300,000 metric tons of foreign-produced ground beef within 90 days caused discontent. Critics of this decision point out that the sale of imported meat at a 20 percent discount puts downward pressure on the purchase prices at which farms can sell their products.

Additionally, industry experts note that the potential savings from transitioning to independent processing may not reach the end consumers. There are concerns that the main benefit from the change in market margins may be reaped by large packers and retail chains, rather than by the producers themselves.
