During the meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) identified climate change as a major risk factor for agriculture. In particular, bank experts highlight the impact of El Niño and uneven rainfall during the southwest monsoon. These phenomena negatively affect not only agricultural production but also the state of rural markets in general.

Governor Sanjay Malhotra noted that government measures are intended to mitigate the consequences of weather-related risks. These include the introduction of climate-resilient crops, the implementation of water conservation programs, and the maintenance of necessary food grain stocks. Despite these initiatives, financial risks to the economy remain significant, which is linked to geopolitical tensions and fluctuations in crude oil prices.
