The Maharashtra state government will establish a working group to implement drone policy.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the creation of a new structure during a meeting with representatives of companies involved in drone production. The primary task of the group will be to consolidate existing support measures, including subsidies, assistance with patenting, and research facilitation, into a single comprehensive system. According to Fadnavis, it is necessary to create a flexible "policy of policies" that will cover all stages of production: from research and development (R&D) to the manufacturing of components within the state.
Special attention is planned to be given to supporting existing enterprises alongside attracting new players to the industry. Officials have been instructed to prepare financial mechanisms for R&D, as well as to work out issues of simplified access to land plots through the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) in the next two to three years. In particular, the acceleration of the project to create a "Drone City" in the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar industrial zone is envisaged.
Minister of Electronics, Information Technology, and Artificial Intelligence Ashish Shelar noted that the state's current strategy considers the interests of young entrepreneurs working in the drone sector. As part of the policy implementation, the authorities intend to assess the achievements of existing companies and provide them with new opportunities for development.
Additional measures will be aimed at creating a full-fledged infrastructure: the state plans to organize testing grounds and simplify business access to government support programs implemented both at the state and federal levels. Furthermore, to expand presence in the defense sector, plans include strengthening the aerospace industry and relevant departments.
