The Greek government has announced new support measures for the agricultural sector.

Within the framework of the government program to strengthen household incomes, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced a package of measures aimed at supporting various categories of citizens, including farmers. This initiative is part of a long-term strategy designed for four years.

The government has prepared a number of significant changes for agricultural producers. In particular, a substantial increase in farmers' income is planned through the reduction of tax rates. It is expected that this relief will affect the majority of active farms. In addition, from November 1 of the current year, a system for purchasing diesel fuel for agricultural needs without tax payments is being introduced. The launch of a new program aimed at providing concessional agricultural loans has also been announced.

These decisions were made against the backdrop of recent operational problems at the OPEKEPE agency, which is responsible for the distribution of agricultural subsidies and found itself at the center of a corruption scandal. The authorities expect that the proposed tax and credit measures will help stabilize the economic situation in the agricultural sector.
