The Government of Tamil Nadu is implementing AI in the agricultural sector.

Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare R. Sakkarapani announced the allocation of 2 crore rupees from state funds for the implementation of the "Uzhavar AI" initiative. The program aims to modernize agricultural advisory services through machine learning and artificial intelligence. Farmers will receive technical recommendations via mobile devices, covering all stages from sowing to harvesting. The automated system will provide data on local weather conditions, soil status, pest and disease forecasts, as well as advice on crop selection based on the agro-climatic situation.

To increase technology accessibility, "Voice-First Agriculture Services" are being introduced. They will allow agricultural producers to obtain information on government support measures and market conditions through voice queries. This digital strategy is a continuation of the work started in 2021 with the launch of the "Uzhavar" application.

Parallel to digitalization, the government is developing physical infrastructure. 27.82 crore rupees have been allocated for the construction of eight new integrated agricultural advisory centers, each equipped with 300-ton storage facilities. The facilities are being built in Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Tiruchirappalli, Virudhunagar, Theni, Tuticorin, and Coimbatore. At these centers, farmers will be able to access consultations and learn about government schemes in one location.

The state also plans to hold an agricultural exhibition with a budget of 3 crore rupees, where modern technologies, sustainable farming methods, and processing machinery will be demonstrated. Additionally, work is underway to provide farmers with soil health cards: 300,000 farmers with a Farmer Identification Number (FID) will receive them through funding of 6.16 crore rupees, and another 100,000 people will receive them under a separate program with a budget of 4 crore rupees.
