The Government of Nigeria has unveiled a new agricultural mechanization strategy.

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security of Nigeria, Senator Abubakar Kyari, has presented a set of measures aimed at transforming the country's agricultural potential. The goal of the initiative is to transition from dependence on imports and the vulnerability of the food system to leadership in mechanization and the achievement of food sovereignty.

As part of the program titled "Renewed Hope National Agricultural Mechanisation Programme," the government has already begun the procurement and distribution of 2,000 tractors, as well as over 9,000 units of various agricultural implements and spare parts. According to plans, a tractor assembly plant will be built in the country, with a production capacity of 2,000 to 4,000 units per year. According to the Minister, the launch of this production will allow for the localization of equipment manufacturing, the reduction of import costs, the creation of new jobs, and the stimulation of economic development.

The mechanization concept presented by the ministry covers not only equipment ownership but also a wide range of services: from soil preparation, sowing, irrigation, and plant protection to harvesting, processing, logistics, and product storage. The program also includes the implementation of digital technologies, precision farming services, and the development of financing, insurance, and maintenance systems.

The Minister emphasized the need to form a "Mechanisation-as-a-Service" model to make modern technologies accessible to farmers on economically viable terms. The authorities are calling on business representatives, youth, and women to actively participate in the development of this market sector.
