The government delegation arrives in Crete to assess the damage caused by the bad weather
An expanded government delegation is heading to Crete to hold meetings and inspect the areas affected by the severe weather. The delegation includes Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Dimas, Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Evangelos Tournas, Deputy Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Yannis Andrianos, Deputy Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Kostas Katsafados, as well as Secretary General for Natural Disaster Recovery and State Aid Petros Karvouris.
A working meeting involving relevant agencies and local authorities will be held at the Region of Crete administration building. The meeting participants will focus on assessing the current situation, recording the damage, and coordinating measures to eliminate the consequences of the bad weather. Afterwards, the delegation will visit the affected areas of Mylopotamos, Ierapetra, and the Lasithi Plateau to inspect the situation on site and identify the needs that have arisen.
Earlier, the storm caused serious damage to the island: flooding occurred in Anogeia, and roads in Zoniana became impassable. The elements caused colossal damage to agricultural crops. The Lasithi Plateau suffered particularly severely, with tons of potatoes ending up underwater. In addition, large-scale destruction of local infrastructure has been recorded.
