The eighth edition of the farmers' market in Shillong confirmed the demand for direct sales.

The event, held last Saturday, attracted thousands of visitors. The product range included cabbage, pineapples, corn, and various organic vegetables. The organizers are 1917 iTEAMS with the participation of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, as well as the Meghalaya State Farmers' Empowerment Commission. The total attendance of the project throughout its existence has exceeded 5,000 people.

The main goal of the initiative is to eliminate intermediaries from the supply chain, which allows farmers to receive a higher income and consumers to purchase fresh local produce. In August, both seasonal vegetables and value-added goods were presented at the venue. Buyers showed interest in cultivation methods, in particular, the absence of chemicals.

To expand the sales geography, a partnership with the quick-commerce service SOMOI was organized. This made it possible to arrange home delivery of farm produce to the residents of Shillong. This direction demonstrates monthly growth in orders and creates jobs for local youth acting as couriers.

Market participants note the practical benefit of direct access to the consumer. For example, Aroma Talang from West Jaintia Hills, who started organic farming in 2025, emphasizes the advantage of this method for soil condition and human health. Another participant, Store Kharlukhi from Tladskein, reported a high sales rate of the presented goods and an intention to continue working at this venue in the future.
