The damage to Kerala’s agriculture from floods is estimated at 99.29 crore rupees.

According to preliminary data from the Ministry of Agriculture, the disaster affected 36,829 farmers. The area of damaged agricultural land totals 3,264 hectares, and the total damage is estimated at 99.29 crore rupees. Authorities emphasize that this figure is interim and may increase as new reports from the field arrive.

T. Siddique has sent an appeal to the Union Minister of Agriculture Shivraj Singh Chouhan requesting the allocation of 110 crore rupees. Of this amount, 100 crore is planned to be directed toward compensation for the lost harvest, and 10 crore toward the restoration of soil fertility, as the leaching of nutrients from the soil has become one of the main problems following the floods. In the affected areas, it is planned to deploy a network of soil testing centers and organize a program to restore soil quality.

To confirm damages, farmers must submit applications to local Krishi Bhavan offices, after which specialists will conduct a field verification of the data. Confirmed information will be entered into a specialized portal for payments. The state government has already approved a 25% increase in compensation for losses from natural disasters and is working to accelerate the verification procedure. Authorities have also requested the center to send a commission to inspect the most affected areas, including the districts of Alappuzha, Kuttanad, Wayanad, Pathanamthitta, and Kottayam.

A meeting with representatives of financial organizations and banks is scheduled for Monday to discuss support measures for farmers, such as loan restructuring and the issuance of new loans. Furthermore, in anticipation of the Onam season, the authorities have allocated 20 crore rupees for the organization of 2,000 markets through Horticorp and VFPCK structures to stabilize food prices.
