The Centre has issued 11 crore unique 11-digit farmer IDs, known as Kisan Pehchaan Patra, under the AgriStack platform. This milestone was achieved five months ahead of the scheduled deadline of March 2027. As stated by Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan, this milestone has been implemented under the Digital Agriculture Mission.

The initiative aims to provide farmers with a unique digital identifier. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, this will ensure transparent, efficient, and timely access to government schemes, bank loans, crop insurance, and disaster relief, while reducing paperwork and repeated verifications.

According to official data, registrations grew rapidly from approximately 30 lakh in December 2024 to 7.8 crore by December 2025. The farmers' registry demonstrates diversity in the sector: 26 percent of registered farmers are women, and about 81 percent belong to small and marginal landholding categories (less than 5 hectares). Furthermore, around 15 percent of registered farmers are over 70 years old, while those under 30 account for only 7.5 percent, with 77.5 percent falling in the 30 to 70 age group.

According to officials, nearly 29,000 tenant farmers and sharecroppers in Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Assam have received IDs in accordance with regional identification mechanisms. In addition, IDs have been issued to 3.14 lakh forest rights holders in Assam, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, and Tripura.

In a video message, Shivraj Singh Chouhan noted that the creation of 11 crore IDs has been completed ahead of schedule, eliminating the need to collect stacks of documents and undergo endless verifications. According to him, the new document will serve as the sole required credential for obtaining bank loans, crop insurance, disaster relief, and selling produce to government agencies at minimum support prices (MSP). Over 6 crore farmers have already benefited from the schemes since the project's launch in 2024.
