Testing floating wetlands on Phillip Island

Researchers state that such nature-based solutions are suitable for installation on already existing facilities. As part of further work, specialists intend to test the technology under various conditions and scales to assess the feasibility of its large-cale application.

Camilla Graves, a farmer from Kernot, joined the trials by installing floating wetlands on two of her 26 farm ponds. According to her, besides addressing water quality issues, such structures serve as a cover for ducks, protecting them from predators like foxes as they are located in the middle of the water body.

Camilla Graves also noted the critical importance of water collected and stored on farms for the local agricultural communities of the region. In her opinion, the simplicity of the concept allows interested farmers to adopt it across Australia.
