Sunkind India is in negotiations to establish agrivoltaic projects.

Hanish Gupta, founder and managing director of Sunkind India Limited, reported that the company is currently negotiating with farmers and developers to implement integrated agrivoltaic projects. Current activity is focused in three Indian states: Rajasthan, Odisha, and Uttar Pradesh. Previously, interaction with agricultural producers was limited to the supply of structures, but now the company is striving for a full-scale partnership to implement turnkey projects.

The essence of agrivoltaics lies in placing solar panels directly over crops. This technology allows for the efficient use of land plots while simultaneously ensuring electricity generation and supporting the growth of agricultural crops. According to Hanish Gupta, the shade from the panels contributes to the formation of a cooler microclimate, which has a beneficial effect on plants. Furthermore, water used for cleaning solar modules can be redirected for irrigation needs, which reduces production costs.

For farmers, participation in such projects opens up new sources of income, independent of market fluctuations in the agricultural sector. Income can be generated through land leasing, investments in the construction of solar power plants, or participation in government programs such as PM Kusum. The latter allows agricultural producers to receive fixed long-term payments for a period of up to 25–30 years and reduce dependence on diesel fuel and unstable power grids.

Despite the promise of the direction, the company notes a number of obstacles related to the need for farmer training and building trust regarding income guarantees and the operational specifics of new models.

Sunkind India Limited, founded in 2019, is engaged in engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC), as well as the manufacturing of solar modules. The company's operational activities cover the states of Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Punjab. Currently, the enterprise is building a production site at Mahindra World City in Jaipur. Last year, the company commissioned 200 MW of capacity and plans to reach a target of 100 MW of developer capacity this year.
