SEA estimate: peanut harvest in Gujarat to decrease by 20.5%

Crop production

The Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA) team completed field monitoring as part of the "Kharif Groundnut Crop Survey 2026-27", conducting three-day inspections in key groundnut-growing regions of Gujarat. According to expert evaluations, the state's production of this crop for the 2026-27 season may decrease by 20.5 percent compared to the previous year. Rainfall deficits in several districts of Saurashtra negatively impacted the condition of the seedlings.

In the current kharif season, the total harvest of groundnuts in Gujarat is projected at 33.30 लाख tonnes (the original text uses the abbreviation lt) from an area of approximately 20.71 लाख hectares with an average yield of 1608 kg per hectare. By comparison, in the 2025-26 season, the figures were 41.88 लाख tonnes, 22.02 लाख hectares, and 1902 kg per hectare, respectively.

In the Saurashtra region, a production volume drop of 19.8 percent is expected. Here, the planned harvest is 25.53 लाख tonnes from 15.78 लाख hectares with a yield of 1618 kg/ha (versus 31.82 लाख tonnes, 16.53 लाख hectares, and 1925 kg/ha the previous year). A significant decrease in volumes was recorded in the Rajkot (5.90 लाख tonnes compared to 6.60 लाख tonnes) and Jamnagar (3.26 लाख tonnes compared to 5.63 लाख tonnes) districts. Meanwhile, Junagadh and Amreli are projected to see an increase in harvests up to 5.32 लाख tonnes and 3.38 लाख tonnes, respectively.

A team of over 20 specialists, including Vinod Patel from SK Industry, Rajesh Patel from GGN Research, and SEA Executive Director B.V. Mehta, conducted the crop survey between October 23 and 25. The experts assessed the size and quality of the harvest, seed cultivars, and held meetings with local farmers, processors, traders, and brokers.
