Record harvest in China: results of the agricultural growing season

Crop production

Minister of Agriculture Zhang Zhu reported that the country is moving towards another record-breaking harvest for the full year. More than a fifth of the autumn crop area has already been harvested. In 2025, annual grain production exceeded 700 million tonnes for the second consecutive year, providing every Chinese citizen with more than 500 kilograms of grain, which is higher than food security standards.

Celebrations for the ninth Harvest Festival took place in the village of Dongjiao, Hubei Province (Xiyang), where locals displayed peaches, crayfish, and treats. In Harbin, the administrative center of Heilongjiang — the country's largest grain-producing region — the festival opening was conducted by three unmanned combine harvesters. Longer frost-free seasons in the northeast and generally favorable weather conditions, despite floods prevailing over droughts, contributed to the increase in production.

According to NASA, the increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration stimulates photosynthesis, having a positive effect on wheat and rice. China and India lead in global regretting of the planet, with China alone accounting for a quarter of the global increase in leaf area. In addition, about 70 percent of ammonia produced from natural gas and coal is used to manufacture fertilizer that maintains yield, while machinery runs on diesel fuel.
