Recommendations for farmers on rice harvesting due to the precipitation forecast

Crop production

Due to the precipitation forecast for the period from October 28 to November 1, the Department of Agricultural Development strongly recommends that farmers monitor weather forecasts before the harvesting and transportation of the rice crop. The expected light or heavy rain may cause damage to the crop, so the relevant department urged taking precautionary measures to reduce potential losses.

Farmers are advised to complete the removal of already harvested ripe rice or postpone harvesting operations until after November 1, guided by the local weather. If rapid transportation of the harvest is not possible, harvesting should be scheduled immediately after weather conditions improve. In fields where harvesting has not yet taken place, it is necessary to promptly organize the drainage of excess water by digging ditches and trenches.

In the event of plant lodging due to wind or precipitation, farmers are advised to collect and prop them up where possible. The harvested crop should be stored in elevated and dry places to avoid flooding and spoilage.
