Québec farmers are preparing to hand in old pesticides and veterinary products

This year, the Unwanted Pesticides and Old Livestock Medications (UPLM) collection program will cover the region as part of its three-year schedule cycle. The events are organized by AgriRÉCUP and allow farmers to safely dispose of expired commercial pesticides or unwanted medications.

A new feature for 2026, exclusively in Quebec, is the opportunity to drop off expired treated seed. The collection will take the form of twenty-two one-day events from September 21 to October 8, operating from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For more remote areas, including regions such as Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, and Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine, three-week collection depots are provided.

As noted by UPLM program coordinator Heather Bradley, the previous collection in Quebec was marked by record activity and an increase in the volume of collected medications, which demonstrates farmers' commitment to the responsible management of such products. Canadian Animal Health Institute (CAHI) President and CEO Catherine Filejski added that the initiative is funded by members of the crop protection industry and CAHI, addressing the problem of disposing of obsolete products accumulated on farms.

AgriRÉCUP (Cleanfarms) is dedicated to the recovery and recycling of agricultural packaging, plastics, and products. Its activities are supported by members of the plant protection, seed, fertilizer, animal health, peat moss, animal bedding, feed, agricultural plastics, and maple tubing industries. The organization's teams operate in Quebec, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, and the Maritime Provinces.
