When assessing an animal's readiness for slaughter, farmers should pay attention to several key indicators: a live weight of 1,000 to 1,200 pounds, a Body Condition Score of 5–6, as well as the presence of well-developed musculature and an adequate layer of fat cover on the carcass. It is also important to consider the sex of the animal: males mature faster and may be ready for slaughter at 2.5 years, whereas females may require more time to grow.
