Modi will inaugurate the Banas Dairy livestock breeding center worth ₹325 crore
On October 30, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the cattle breeding and research centre in Bhildi (Banaskantha district, Gujarat). The ₹325 crore project has been implemented by Banas Dairy with the aim of increasing milk productivity and improving local livestock breeds using advanced reproductive technologies.
The new complex, named the Bharat Bovine Breeding and Research Centre (BBBRC), spans 127 acres. The facility is planned to produce 25,000 high-quality embryos per year using ovum pick-up, in vitro fertilization (OPU-IVF), and embryo transfer methods. This work is designed to improve animal genetics and enable farmers to achieve higher milk yields from smaller livestock numbers.
The project was established with the technical assistance of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and with the support of the National Gokul Mission, a national program aimed at the conservation and development of local bull and cow breeds. The centre will focus on improving local cow breeds such as Kankrej, Gir, Sahiwal, and Tharparkar, as well as Mehsana, Banni, Jaffrabadi, and Murrah buffaloes. Modern technologies will accelerate the dissemination of valuable genetic traits compared to traditional breeding methods.
According to Shankarbhai Chaudhary, Speaker of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly and Chairman of Banas Dairy, this centre will be an important step in introducing modern science into the breeding of local livestock and strengthening the dairy industry. As part of the same program, the head of the Indian government will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for four more development projects by Banas Dairy.
