India is implementing satellite technologies and AI for monitoring tea plantations.

To modernize the monitoring of tea plantations in India, an initiative called CHAAYANKAN has been launched. The project is being implemented through the joint efforts of the Tea Board, the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) under ISRO, and NIT Rourkela.

The technological solution is based on the integration of multiple data sources. The system is planned to incorporate satellite imagery data, results from field observations, and current weather indicators. The use of artificial intelligence algorithms combined with drone technology will allow agronomists to promptly identify signs of plant stress, detect pests, and diagnose crop diseases.

In addition to monitoring the health of the plantings, the CHAAYANKAN project aims to develop tools for forecasting the yield of tea plantations.
