In Switzerland, an outbreak of an unknown disease is being reported among the dairy herd.

In a number of livestock farms in Switzerland, cases of disease in dairy cattle have become more frequent. The main symptoms reported by farmers are high body temperature and diarrhea. In addition, animal owners note a significant decrease in milk production volumes.

OSAV specialists have not yet identified the causative agent of the disease. The agency is conducting a comprehensive inspection to determine whether the nature of the pathology is infectious or caused by metabolic disorders. At the moment, no evidence of a link between diarrhea in cows and the hot weather established in the country has been found.

Nevertheless, the agency emphasizes that high temperatures can have a negative impact on the state of the herd, making animals more vulnerable. Due to weather conditions characterized by prolonged heat and a lack of precipitation, OSAV recommends that farm owners provide animals with access to shade and a sufficient volume of drinking water.

Officials warn that the described symptoms—fever, digestive problems, and a decline in productivity—may indicate the development of a highly contagious disease. In this regard, farmers are strongly advised to contact veterinary doctors immediately upon detecting the first signs of illness to perform diagnostic tests and protect the livestock.
