Impact of FCC decisions on the robotic lawn mower market and an overview of current offerings

On July 27, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) clarified the application of its national security requirements regarding equipment from foreign companies. The new rules apply not only to humanoid robots but also to household devices, including robotic vacuum cleaners, lawn mowers, and pool cleaners. According to the FCC's clarifications, such equipment must now receive special authorization for import, marketing, and sale in the United States. It is worth noting that these restrictions do not apply to devices previously purchased by users.

Against the backdrop of these regulatory changes, models available for purchase at a discount are currently on the market. One of them is the Roborock RockMow X115H, designed for use on plots of up to 0.37 acres (16,117.2 square feet). The device is equipped with a Quad-Camera AI vision system, all-wheel drive, and is capable of traversing slopes of up to 80%. The lawn mower supports two mapping options: automatic based on artificial intelligence and manual, controlled via an app. At present, Amazon is offering this model with a $500 discount, reducing the price to $1,800.

The Roborock product range also includes the RockNeo Q110H model, suitable for maintaining flat lawns of up to a quarter acre with a slope angle of up to 45%. The cost of this device is $1,000 with a $169 discount. In addition, CNET expert Adam Dowd highlighted the Eufy 15 model, which the publication included in its "Editor's Choice" list for its ease of use. Currently, the price for the Eufy 15 has been reduced from $1,800 to $1,200.

CNET expert Chris Wedel, who specializes in the selection of robotic gardening equipment, notes that the use of such devices allows for a significant reduction in the time spent on plot maintenance. Based on his own observations, using a robotic mower saves about 65 hours over the summer period, although the actual figure depends on the area of the specific territory.
