Gombe urged to expand participation in the agricultural sector to combat hunger
Special Adviser to the Governor on Inter-Community Relations Chidebel Ewuzi has advocated for broader citizen participation in agronomic activities. In his opinion, agriculture itself serves as an effective tool in combating hunger, as well as helping to create new jobs and strengthen the population's sources of income.
This statement was made during the celebration of the annual New Yam Festival, where the adviser led the Igbo community living in Gombe State. The event brought together farmers, elders, representatives of traditional leaders, and families to express gratitude for the harvested crop and offer prayers for prosperity in the upcoming growing season.
During the celebration, Ewuzi emphasized the key importance of yam for Igbo culture: this root crop symbolizes not only a staple food product, but also material well-being, soil fertility, hard work, and identity. In addition, the government official spoke positively of Governor Yahaya's administration, noting the authorities' successes in healthcare and agriculture that have improved the quality of life for local residents.
