Delhi introduces a fee for the use of treated wastewater for farms.

According to the new initiative, farmhouse owners will be required to pay 10,000 rupees per acre per month for the use of treated water. This measure is part of a strategy aimed at significantly reducing groundwater extraction volumes in the region.

In addition to farms, the new regulations also affect the construction sector. Specifically, on construction sites with an area of more than 500 sq. m, the use of treated water for dust suppression is becoming a mandatory requirement.

The goal of the adopted policy is to transition to 100% use of treated water for non-potable needs by 2036. To implement this objective, a master plan is to be developed, and the modernization of water supply and sewage infrastructure will be carried out with the financial support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
