Data collection on livestock animals in the Yangon Region will take place in December 2026.
On 8 October, a coordination meeting dedicated to livestock data collection was held at the Yangon Region Government building. Dr Htoo Maung, Yangon Region Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation and Chairman of the Regional Committee for Livestock Data Collection Supervision, stated that the nationwide livestock census is scheduled for 2028, but data collection in the Yangon Region will take place in December 2026 as instructed by the President.
The data collection process will cover 1,246,967 households across 2,525 wards and villages located in eight districts and 21 townships where livestock is raised. Township data collection teams have already been formed for this work. The process will be supervised by ward and village administrators jointly with the chairpersons of district management and administration committees, and in cooperation with relevant general administration departments.
Dr Aung Myint Han, Secretary of the Regional Committee for Livestock Data Collection Supervision and Director of the Breeding and Veterinary Department, noted that this work is being carried out to establish a reliable database. Such information is essential for the effective implementation of livestock development projects that contribute to strengthening the national economy, as well as for the implementation of animal health programs.
