Damage to Baglung roads from floods and landslides was estimated at 500 million rupees
In Baglung, natural disasters caused serious damage to both the Road Division Office facilities, including national highways and access roads, and the provincial road infrastructure managed by the Infrastructure Development Office. Long-term costs for the restoration of the affected roads are estimated to exceed 1 billion rupees.
According to preliminary data, the most severe destruction was recorded on the Nisi and Galkot sections of the Mid-Hill Highway, as well as on the Galkot-Harichaur-Tarakhola road. According to Hari Subedi, head of the Road Division Office in Baglung, the damage to the Kaligandaki Corridor, the Mid-Hill Highway, the Baglung-Beni road, and other major routes is estimated at approximately 300 million rupees. On the Mid-Hill Highway in the Kanabagar and Jivahola areas, water flows washed away a 400-meter section, and landslides in more than a dozen places along the Godabadhe-Hatiya stretch interrupted transport communication. Traffic has also been disrupted in other directions, including Kalikhola Bagar, Belbagar, Jaiminighat, as well as on the Baglung Bazar-Sigana and Baglung Bazar-Tityan roads.
For its part, the Baglung Infrastructure Development Office estimates the damage to provincial roads at approximately 200 million rupees. Anup Thapa, head of the office, noted that the Harichaur-Tarakhola road suffered the most, with about a dozen landslides recorded on an eight-kilometer stretch. The Shalgram Museum-Malika-Panchkot and Kushmisera-Rangkhani routes were also damaged. Detailed information on losses is currently being collected, and a letter has already been sent to the contractor demanding the restoration of the Harichaur-Tarakhola road, as the contract period has not yet expired.
