China introduces zero customs duties for products from Nigeria

Nigerian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, stated that China's decision to extend zero-tariff treatment to all tariff lines from African countries opens up new opportunities for Nigerian producers. According to the ministry, access to a market of approximately 1.4 billion people is a vital factor for the development of sectors such as agricultural processing, textiles, leather and pharmaceutical industries, as well as the manufacturing of consumer goods and mining.

The country's authorities emphasize that a key task for the Nigerian economy is to move away from exporting solely raw materials in favor of high-value-added products. According to the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the elimination of tariffs will not be effective if the country cannot ensure a sufficient volume of finished goods. In this regard, special attention is being paid to the need to strengthen production capacities.

To achieve these goals, the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission and other relevant agencies plan to develop cooperation with Chinese investors. This collaboration should be aimed at establishing factories in Nigeria focused on producing goods for subsequent export to China. These initiatives were announced by the Special Assistant on Communications and New Media to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Magnus Eze, following an international seminar organized by the Center for China Studies in Abuja.
