Bad weather in Uttar Pradesh: heavy rains and wind damage crops

Ecology

The activation of monsoons in Uttar Pradesh has led to heavy rainfall in many regions. In Lucknow, 125.8 mm of precipitation was recorded over 21 hours (until Saturday morning). In rural areas, strong winds and rain caused lodging and damage to crops. Farmers express concerns that the persistence of unfavorable weather conditions will increase the scale of harvest losses.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a weather system in the form of a depression is moving toward the southeastern part of the state. Heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds are expected in the eastern districts on Saturday. The inclement weather, including rain and thunderstorms, may continue into Sunday.

In connection with the forecast and the threat of flash floods, the state government has put district administrations on high alert. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered district magistrates in affected zones to monitor the situation and conduct on-site inspections. Rescue services have been instructed to remain ready to deal with the aftermath of floods, waterlogging, lightning strikes, and strong winds. The authorities have also mandated officials to assess the damage caused by heavy rainfall and lightning and to provide assistance to affected families within 24 hours.
