The current season in France was indeed characterized by abnormally warm weather conditions: the spring of 2026 was the warmest since 1900, with a temperature deviation of +1.7°C above the seasonal norm. The acceleration of vine development during such periods is a natural process that has been well known to viticulturists for centuries. The ripening time of grapes traditionally depends on the weather conditions of a specific year, which is confirmed by historical practice: depending on temperature and precipitation, the harvest may begin earlier or shift to September-October.

Specialists draw attention to the fact that over the last 50 years, viticulture has undergone significant technological changes. Agronomists have implemented the use of improved grape clones, new rootstocks, modern canopy management methods, precision irrigation, and advanced systems for pest and disease protection. In addition, modern tools allow for more precise monitoring of sugar content, acidity, and phenolic ripening of the berries. Thus, the change in harvesting schedules may be linked to these professional advancements rather than solely to external natural factors.

Furthermore, the approach in which isolated events, such as an early harvest, are automatically interpreted as proof of a climate crisis is being criticized. It is emphasized that professional journalism requires the consideration of alternative explanations, including natural climate variability and the adaptive capacity of the agricultural sector.
