A strategy for combating climate change has been adopted in Taraba State.

In the city of Jalingo, Governor Agbu Kefas announced the launch of a comprehensive program aimed at creating an environmentally sustainable environment in the state. The main focus of the new strategy is on the conservation of forests, waterways, and other natural resources of the region. The state head emphasized that any climate change mitigation measures will not be effective unless they are aimed at assisting local farmers who are already facing unpredictable rainfall and the drying up of water bodies.

According to the official statement, the effectiveness of the policy implementation will be assessed not by the number of meetings held, but by the tangible results in local communities. The governor directed local government authorities to actively participate in the plan, focusing on addressing issues such as flooding and vegetation burning.

The Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Hajiya Aishat Barde, noted that the document covers a wide range of sectors, including infrastructure, healthcare, and education. She called on line ministries and departments, private companies, and civil society organizations to work together on the initiative. The document was developed with the technical and financial support of Natural Eco Capital, the Society for Planet and Prosperity, and the African Climate Foundation. The governor also appealed to the federal government, the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), and international partners to provide assistance in implementing the state's environmental initiatives.
